Co-Resurrection with Christ

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important event in all of history.  It changes everything.

The apostle Paul even said that if Christ was not raised from the dead that our faith is pointless (1 Corinthians 15:17).

C.S. Lewis said this of the resurrection,

“The New Testament writers speak as if Christ’s achievement in rising from the dead was the first event of its kind in the whole history of the universe. He is the ‘first fruits,’ the pioneer of life,’ He has forced open a door that has been locked since the death of the first man. He has met, fought, and beaten the King of Death. Everything is different because He has done so.”

(Miracles, ch. 16)

The resurrection of Jesus Christ secures our forgiveness and eternal life that we can have if we receive it by faith.

We have hope that one day we will experience a bodily resurrection and enjoy life in heaven with him for all of eternity.

This is good news, but one aspect of Jesus’ resurrection often gets left out in our celebration of Jesus’ resurrection, and that is our co-resurrection with Him.

YOU HAVE BEEN CO-RESURRECTED WITH CHRIST

All week long in a series of blog posts, I have written about our co-crucifixion with Christ and what all we died to when we died with Him.  But in dying with Christ, we’ve also been raised with Christ to new life!

Paul writes this in Romans 6:3-5.

Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?  4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.  5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection.

Because of the resurrection, you are not who you once were.

The old you is dead, and you have been resurrected in Christ into a new self.

In Him, you are holy, righteous, and blameless.

You are completely forgiven.

You are set free from the power of sin and death and have been given a new heart.

You have new desires and motives.

You have a new power inside of you.  The same power that raised Christ from the dead, raised you up and lives in you and through you now.

Here’s the way David Needham writes it in his book titled Birthright:

“At that moment a new person came into being who had never existed before.  You are not a repaint job but a brand-new creature.  The old you was crucified on the cross with Christ, and the new you was born of the Holy Spirit and has been raised with Christ and seated with him in the heavenlies (Ephesians 2:6).  You were dead spiritually now you are alive spiritually.  For the first time, you are alive the way God meant you to be alive.”

David Needham, Birthright

Easter changes everything.

You are not just going to be resurrected and go to heaven one day.

You’ve been resurrected now.

Go live the resurrection life today!
